HondaXR 500R

4.250,-
This Honda XR500 was produced in 1979 for the European market. It was built with the clear purpose of becoming a durable, torquey and usable enduro in the emerging fourstroke segment. Finished in its iconic red, with period-correct graphics, the huge 23 inch front wheel and high-mounted exhaust, this model represents the pure, uncompromised design philosophy of late-1970s off-road engineering. The XR500 was developed as a response to the growing dominance of two-stroke machines, offering riders a more controlled, torque-rich alternative that could tackle long-distance off-road riding with ease. This particular example was purchased from a Maico collector who never got to restoring it. It has been carefully preserved and sympathetically brought back to life, respecting the bike’s originality rather than over-restoring it. The purpose was to drive a part of the Trans Euro Trail (TET) with it. The project is now an honest, mechanically overhauled machine with the kind of presence only a fully original XR can carry. In a world filled with overrestored classic bikes, this turns the head only of real connaisseurs. Rather than living a static collector’s life, this XR500 has been ridden and enjoyed as intended. It wears its war scars as medals. Over the past year, the bike has benefited a complete disassembly, a full inspection (replacement if necessary), a proper rub with a cloth, and a refurbishment of all faulty components. Rather than replacing the rear shocks, they ware revised and reassembled in their old, bruised housing thinking they can only age this beautifully once. Work includes: The result is a machine that starts with one kick, purs as a kitten, and delivers the kind of raw, mechanical connection that modern bikes have long since lost. Cosmetically, the bike presents exactly as it should: honest and characterful. Kick it to life and you immediately understand the appeal. The large-capacity four-stroke single delivers strong, linear torque, making the XR500 incredibly capable across a wide range of terrain. Whether climbing, cruising or navigating technical sections, the engine inspires confidence. The long-travel suspension and lightweight chassis provide a riding experience that feels both planted and surprisingly agile. This is not just a motorcycle—it is a Japanese engineered tool, built for exploring the roads less travelled. The XR500 occupies a special place in Honda’s history. It helped lay the foundation for decades of XR and XL models that would go on to dominate the dual-sport and off-road market. Today, finding an example that retains its original character—without being over-restored or heavily modified—is becoming increasingly difficult. This bike represents exactly that balance: This Honda XR500 should go to an owner that intends on enjoying it —it was built for riding and exploring as it was intended over 47 years ago. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a first gen XR500 in this condition, a true icon of off-road motorcycling in honest, usable condition.
